I just joined tonight and this far everything looks great. Gonna do some test installs later tonight or tomorrow. THe dueal membership thing with phocoder is great too.

I see a lot of stuff here that I can use but I was wondering if you'd ever considered creating just a general content management system for websites beyond the datiing, auction, and jobs sites I've seen so far.

Thanks

Hi Tim and thanks for taking advantage of our PHP Labs / PerlCoders promotional offer.

The amount of custom programming requests we receive keeps my programmers (and myself) pretty busy so we haven't released any new BIG scripts in a little while, but we will shortly. We've considered writing a CMS, but the demand for it isn't quite as high as other things (such as custom affiliate software).

We are definitely open to suggestion if you have any ideas for scripts you'd like to see released in the members areas. Very Happy

Thank YOU guys for making such an offer. I was looking at just phplabs for quite a while (found the auction script in a search engine and started talking a look at the whole site) and then the promo offer came along and I couldn't resist.

Imagine: scripts that actually work. As I'm sure you've seen there are many "script archives" on the web with "free" scripts on them. But what most people don't realize untill they take a closer look at them that many of them haven't been updated for YEARS, if the scripts website exists at all. Even if you do get the package you find bugs or can't get the thing installed. I can't afford to pay $199 for ONE script but I certainly can for access to this kind of inventory, and the installation support is a HUGE PLUS Smile

Understandable. The custom work no doubt helps sibsidize offering the script library so cheaply.

The reason I suggested it was because of all of the cms's I've tried (and boy have I tried many many of them both free and trial versions/demos of a few commercial ones) meet my needs/desires. I need a CMS which is COMPLETELY THEMABLE with html/css/etc that does not require php knowlege other than "inclide this tag here so the menu shows up" that kinda thing. Also the most important modules should be installed (though not necessarily enabled) by default. I hate downloading a CMS and then having to hunt down and install modules that should be in the core package. Then when you upgrade you have to hunt down the newest versions of all of those modules.

The best CMS I've found so far is Exponent CMS but their decision to be completly php5 within the next year concerns me greatly because while there are many scripts using php5 now more than ever before, upgrading to php5 will kill many other scripts and I'm not prepared to do that yet. They also lack search engine friendly URL's which are extremely important. They apparently had them before but took them out while a new system was being designed. Makes no sense to me: wait till the new system is designed then switch them not disable them in the meantime.
